SODIUM ION BATTERIES (Na-ion)
(Na-ion or SIB) is our newest chemistry for energy storage. Our current generation SIB already exceeds the most popular Li-ion battery (LiFePO4 or LFP) in energy density, cycle life, and pricing.
SIBs do not have a thermal runaway problem as most Li-ion chemistries do. SIBs can be discharged down to 0% SOC (state of charge), whereas Li-ion usually will sustain damages or even destruction if discharged to 0% SOC. SIBs have a broader operating temperature range, as well. Our continuous discharge rate is 2C with 3-5C in short burst durations.
Our next generation SIB will exceed LFP by more than 60% in energy density, cycle life, usable energy, and lower pricing within 9-12 months. The continuous discharge rate will be 6C with 10C short burst durations. Cycle life to exceed 20,000.
LITHIUM TITANATE BATTERIES (LTO)
Li-Titanate (LTO) is the only Li-ion chemistry that does not have a thermal runaway issue when charged or discharged at extremely high C-rates. Its drawback is low energy density (50-80 Wh/kg) and high cost. However, LTO has extremely high cycle life (> 30,000 at low C-rates) and extremely high discharge capability (up to 100C for short times).
Weight is a critical issue with airborne platforms, so we designed and produced an extremely safe and lightweight LTO battery pack to replace lead-acid batteries in airplanes to start gasoline and jet engines.
Weighing in at 1/3 the weight of lead-acid batteries that it’s replacing with more cranking power and duration. LTO also has 2X more energy at -30°C (-22°F) than any other batteries.
The LTO is excellent for applications where extremely high discharge and charge C-rates are critical to mission success.
